Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia Japonica)
One of the most problematic and invasive weeds is the Japanese Knotweed. Capable of seriously damaging houses, buildings and hard surfaces by growing through concrete and tarmac. It spreads through its vegetative parts and stem.
The early identification of this weed can significantly reduce the resources needed to minimise the spread on a site.
It is necessary that the removal of this weed should be carried out by an approved contractor.
Easy to identify when fully grown by height, size of leaves and size of flowers. Spreads by seeds, mainly through deliberate planting, wind dispersal and in water courses. Contact with any part of this plant must be avoided as even minute amounts of sap can cause blistering of the skin following exposure to sunlight. It can also out-compete native flora, river bank erosion and increase in flood risk. Giant Hogweed must be removed as controlled waste in order to comply with legislation.
