Today is World Bee Day 2021, a very important day that celebrates these wonderful creatures and brings a much needed awareness of our responsibility as humans to ensure their survival.
Educating our younger generation about the importance of bees and other pollinators is key in building a better future. With this in mind, we chose Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin to create a Pollinator Friendly Zone, where children will be able to enjoy the colourful flowers but also learn about pollinators and the importance of preserving our buzzing friends.
At SAP, our Biodiversity Ambassador Nikolina has a passion for beneficial organisms, how they react in the environment, what interactions they have with plants and other organisms and how we can protect them and stop their decline.
Nikolina and our Project Teams created a perfect environment for pollinators by planting a biodiverse mix of pollinator friendly trees and shrubs and installing bug hotels.
We look forward to seeing the planting mature and the area develop into space that brings benefit to people and nature.
Teaching our children to have a healthy respect for bees
To help educate the children about the importance of taking care of bees, our Team placed signs near the garden with fun facts and information about respecting their new habitat at the hospital grounds.
