As we brace ourselves for the arrival of the 'worst snow storm in 36 years', we thought it would be good to share some of our hard earned knowledge about the importance of winter preparation for business.
During a storm, your business has the potential of being severely disrupted, and could potentially lead to temporary closure. As the saying goes 'preparation is the key to success.' If you are prepared, your business can avoid the inevitable loss of revenue and hefty payouts due to property damage and insurance claims.
Some steps to winter proof your business:
1. Plan for snow and ice removal
Ensure your business is stocked up with salt or grit supplies to prevent snow and ice accumulating around your premises, especially driveways, pathways and car parks. If your company does not have the resources to take appropriate action, then feel free to get in touch with our Maintenance Department to discuss a customised Winter Maintenance package.
2. Prepare your building
Check your building for drafts and leaks to avoid frozen pipes and seepage under doors. Always have a generator to hand as backup in the case of a power outage.
3. Keep an inventory
It's always wise to keep a detailed inventory by taking photos of your building and its contents. This will make it easier to replace items that are destroyed in a storm.
4. Pay attention to weather warnings
Have a plan in place to alert employees in case of any disruption at work. This can be done by paying close attention to weather announcements. At SAP, our partnership with the MET Office ensures that our teams are always ready for action, 24/7.
A lot of research is being conducted into the frequency of extreme weather events that Ireland has seen recently, and the potential outcome of our winters being extended into the summer months. With this in mind, it is critical for businesses to become more winter safety savvy, especially when personal injury claims are rising significantly each year in Ireland, with 2016 seeing a rise of 18 percent.
Our Winter Maintenance teams at SAP have over 20 years of experience in winter solutions. Thanks to our dedicated teams who are on call 24/7, our partnership with Met Eireann and our huge fleet of snow ploughs, gritters and salt spreaders, SAP always remain on target each year and are constantly commended by our clients:
"Thanks for all your help and support over the last very trying week. It was very much appreciated. Please give my personal thanks to the three guys that were involved in the reopening of the lines today. Feedback from our client tells me that without their efforts, we may not have achieved the successes that we have"
